Flower tea

I've had a spot of tonsillitis recently so my wonderful mummy sent me some flower tea through the post. Isn't it pretty!

Moss stitch

Here is the moss stitch square I started using purple and yellow wool. Not keen on the colours together but the effect is nice so I'm pleased with another experiment. I'm enjoying all this practising but it's time for a proper project now I think.

The cross stitch house is coming along nicely, I should hopefully have it finished this week...finally!

Edith and Sophie

Edith and Sophie are our two very sweet little black kittens. They always make me giggle so when I saw this I just had to add it to my list. Once payday is here I shall certainly be ordering it.

Knitting away the grumps.

It's been a very grumpy day today, I'm not entirely sure why however since I've had a glass of Sauvignon and a good knit I feel a lot better. Todays experiment has been moss stitching with 2 balls of wool on some big needles, it's looking quite good. I might invest in some nicer colours and get some scarves knitted. I shall upload a photo when I have finished this experimental square.

Stitch, stitch, stitch

Nothing much to upload today really. I had a lovely trip to Matlock Bath with my Dad and Tom which was lovely. The country makes me feel very happy and inspired. I did get a bit crafty when we got home but it was more cross stitching of my house which I'm hoping to have finished soon, exciting.

Another knit shift

I had a play around again tonight and now that I understand stitches a bit better I have stitched some patterns into my blankets for mice! I have no idea how I managed to knit the corner piece, not what I was aiming for but I think I could do it again of needs be.

A possible future project.

I love this bag but I would honestly have no idea where to start with knitting in the letters. I shall keep practicing though and maybe one day it can be knitted knitting bag.

Knitting the night shift away

It was a reasonably quiet shift tonight so during the silent times I practiced some different stitches. First I learnt to pearl which was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. Then I tried moss stitch...complete disaster on the first attempt and I had to ask a more skilled colleague to sort it out for me. Once I had been shown the error of my ways I was actually quite good and managed to knit a few rows. Eventually I decided I felt confident enough to play around and managed to knit a ribbed pattern. All of these skills have been used to make a completely useless rectangle of wool but at least now my scarves can be a bit more interesting...still not feeling confident enough to try much else but watch this space it might happen.

Whilst I feel more confident with stitching I need to learn to improve casting on.

Lard cakes

I love seeing the birds in the trees and living in a built up area I don't see many. By way of encouragement and also as an apology for the 2 cats we will soon be letting out to terrorise them I have made them some lard cakes. Only 2 out of 4 were successful but I have learnt what to do next time. Happy eating birdies.

The secret project

I've been beavering away at my little secret project and while it's only small and simple it's looking good. Watch this space...

Making washing up a little more glamorous.

I was sick of the nearly empty washing up bottle toppling all over the place and most of the time looking quite unsightly so I fished an empty Whisky bottle out of the recycling bin and set to it with some glass paint. It's not a bad result really and it looks quite pretty on the windowsill.

Sadly though it has not made me enjoy washing up any more than before...I still want a dishwasher.

My seaside plate

I made this last summer with the help of my boyfriends Mum who is a very talented glass artist (check her out at www.susicoxglass.co.uk she's very clever). I really enjoyed making it and would love to take it up as a full time hobby but it would mean buying a kiln, for which I have not enough money and not enough room!

My scarf that became a snood.

I started to knit this about 3 years ago after complaining about being bored when at home visiting my parents. I put it away with the spare balls of wool and forgot about it for a while, it came back out the cupboard and was finished in a matter of days. It was however too short to be a scarf and I doubt they still make the wool so a snood it became.

I need another knitting project but I want to improve my stitching skills first so I have ordered a set of needles from eBay for £1.72 and will practice with some scraps before I take on my next project.

Most recent projects

Some of my current projects are a Cath Kidston cross stitch house which I am loving. Yesterday I finished a half knitted scarf I found in my cupboard and today I started a secret birthday project.

I have hundreds of ideas in my head for future projects and I'm looking forward to getting started!

Welcome

Welcome to the diary of a novice crafter. This blog is both for me and others who might be interested in what I am up to.
